Saturday, July 25th, 9am-12pm, at Snapdragon Flower Farm, Spokane, WA
Join me at Snapdragon Flower Farm for a morning of exploring the colors of summer through natural dyeing. Together we’ll start with a walk in the gardens and discuss growing your own dye plants and harvesting for dye work. You will get to learn and practice two techniques of extracting pigment using the fresh harvest and dried blooms - bundle dyeing & ecoprint. We will work with pre-mordanted silk, cottons and yarn fiber samples. You can choose additional re-purposed fabrics from Spokane Zero Waste to build confidence naturally dyeing your own garments and fabrics at home. We will discuss the importance of mordanting (preparing fabrics) and pH.
This workshop celebrates the local color palette from the farm, featuring fresh & dried blooms including marigolds, hollyhocks, sulfur cosmos, coreopsis, and more. It’s a welcoming space for creative play, curiosity, and connection—no prior experience needed. Come as you are and leave with beautiful textiles and a deeper appreciation for the colors growing all around us. All tools and materials provided. You will leave with your unique hand dyed pieces, as well as a dye journal template and resources for your continued natural dye experiments.
Cancellation Policy: Although we do not do refunds, we can discuss substitutions for a later class. Please contact us if you are unable to attend, or let us know if you will need to send another person in your place.
* Dye classes are typically not designed for children, please contact us if you have questions.
