Coming Soon, 7/18 Natural Dyes on the Farm

Join us at Snapdragon Flower Farm for a joyful, hands-on workshop exploring the colors of summer through natural dyeing. Together we’ll walk the gardens and explore growing your own dye plants, then harvest fresh dyes from the field, dye pre-mordanted silk scarves, test out other natural sample fibers (to be determined) and experiment with methods of extracting pigment using what we have harvested from the gardens. In addition, you are invited to bring one natural fiber garment (cotton, hemp, silk, bamboo, or linen for example*) of your own, the equivalent of a t-shirt size to include in our dye experiments.

This workshop celebrates the local color palette of the farm, featuring freshly harvested marigolds, hollyhocks, sulfur cosmos, coreopsis, Japanese Indigo, and more. It’s a welcoming space for creative play, curiosity, and connection—no prior experience needed. Beth Mort, owner of Snapdragon Flower Farm, will help to guide your dye journey and answer your gardening questions. Come as you are and leave with beautiful textiles and a deeper appreciation for the colors growing all around us.

*For the best results using natural dyes, a 100% natural fiber garment is best. Synthetic fibers may not accept the dyes.

All tools and materials provided. You will leave with your unique hand dyed silk scarf, sample fibers, and your rejuvenated garment as well as a how-to guide for your continued natural dye experiments.

Classes are designed for students 16 and older. Please only register if you meet this age requirement.
